Mr. and Mrs. William B. Clement
200 Crest Road
As you approach "Clembrook", you pass through an antique wrought iron gate held in place by pre-civil war brick columns. A large Lebanese Cypress frames the gracious veranda and front entrance. Started in 1918 and completed in 1924, the home was commissioned by the Fownes family from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Step inside and you will note the beautiful dental moldings handcrafted on site by European artists.
The historic gardens, which surround the house, were designed by Frederick Law Olmstead and fashioned after the Henry VIII European garden rooms. Waiting to be discovered, is the pre-civil war cypress and brick pool house which originally served as slave quarters in South Carolina. It was moved to the property at the turn of the century.
